Facing the Giants!

No man is exempted from trails and tempations in life. Every one has their own share of problems and when disaster hits, it is quite natural for any man to have negative feelings such as worry, anger, loss of temper, loss of hope, depression and disappointment. Some tend to give up and give in, others overcome and survive. Some say this is the ‘Circle of life’… but is it? Are we subject to anything that hits us or do we have some power to overcome and not just survive? Our ATTITUDE towards these trials is what makes the difference!

James 1:2,3,4 says; Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

Strong words to follow! How can one be joyful when facing trials? We often question God asking “why me” and why He allowed it to happen in our life. But trials develop or build perseverance. We serve a faithful God who will not allow us to be tempted beyond what we can bear. But when we are tempted, He will also provide a way out of it- 1 Corinthians 10:13(NIV)

God allows trails in our life to test our faith in His word, His power and His promises. Long-suffering or patience is one of the fruit of the Spirit. Just as our muscles grow stronger when we exercise them, the more we exercise the fruit of Spirit, the stronger they become. Faith produces patience. Patience as described by Webster is – “A calm temper, which suffers evils without murmuring or discontent”. A person who undergoes trials will not go unrewarded. Bible says in James 1:12(NIV)

Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.

As the song writer says-

“Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged—Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful, Who will all our sorrows, share?
Jesus knows our every weakness; Take it to the Lord in prayer.”

We have a wonderful Savior to whom we can run to at all times. Then WHY do we have to worry? Let us boldly confess ‘I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me (Philippians 4:13) and move ahead.
