Pruning Our Faith

Pleasure to introduce Mrs Anitha Abby as guest, posting this article for us!

It’s easy to soar high in faith when everything is going great but the moment adversity knocks on our door, we tend to lose faith like air out of a balloon.I recently went through an experience where my faith & patience were tested to the brim. I felt deserted and went into a ‘rebel’ mode refusing to sit in God’s presence or talk to Him. Here I was facing a BIG problem (although in reality the problem was quite miniscule compared to others), the storm of the century, and God was silent! How could He do this to me? Why me? I’m sure you must be thinking “been there, done that”! We have all been in such situations and we have asked the same questions.

Well, the good news is God doesn’t think like us or give up like we do. He reminded and encouraged me through a song I heard that it’s only through storms like these we can be drawn nearer to Him. He is the one who has called to go through this difficult passage and He will not leave our side however worn out we are. He will guide us through the tempest and bring us out of the storm a stronger person.

Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and he brought them out of their distress. He stilled the storm to a whisper – Psalm 107:28-29(NIV)
In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed(1 Peter 1:6,7)

We are in a time when our faith is being tested to the limit. The truth is that even though the storms are getting fiercer, we serve a God who remains the same. His power to save and restore our lives has not changed. We should ask God to draw us nearer to Him as we labour through the storms in our lives. The one thing we find hard to do is thank God for the storms and trials in our lives. We must trust in God and believe that that the God we serve is working out His plan in our lives through every battle we face. Through all that we face we should love Him more and more.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose (Romans 8:28)

We have a God who loves us and whose love will never leave us, a God who will carry us through every storm, trail, tribulation and He will use all these for His holy purpose in our lives. Praise God for that!! Are we willing to stand and believe in Him inspite of all that is happening in our lives? These are a few lines from the song that encouraged me.

“Let the treasures of the trial
Form within me as I go
And at the end of this long passage,
Let me leave them at Your throne
May this journey bring a blessing
May we rise on wings of faith
And at the end of our heart’s testing,
With His likeness let us wake.”
