Thank You Lord!

Today’s newspaper front page read ‘UN: 100,000 Syrian refugees stranded’. The civil war in Syria has forced people to flee from the nation to neighboring countries. Thousands have been stranded at crossing points, and many innocents have been killed, orphaned, widowed and left homeless. Several humanitarian organizations are reaching out to this cry for help and working towards providing the refugees with food, medicine and shelter. Another headline read ‘42 dead as Morocco bus plunges into ravine’.

We often think we are safe and secure in our countries, homes, offices etc., but these headlines are just a reminder that we have no control over what happens the next minute in our life. We often take for granted the basic amenities in our life as though it were our birth right. The electricity goes off for an hour and we grumble for a week. We grumble if we don’t have a brand of clothing or have to carry the same old bag or wear the same shoes for a month. We frown when we have to eat a day old refrigerated food. We credit our ‘no accident’ record to our fabulous driving skills. In other words, we fail to recognize God’s provision and protection in our lives.

Do we thank Him enough for all His provision and protection? Is it ever enough? We need to be thankful for every tiny detail that He controls in our life without our knowledge. We don’t have to wait for a BIG blessing to say a word of thanks; instead learn to value basic amenities in our life.

We have a Father to whom we can run to, at any time. When we face tough situations in life, we can always boldly enter the throne of grace to seek His guidance. As the word says in Matthew 7:7-10 says,

Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone?  Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!

As much as we get busy in asking, seeking and knocking the door of heaven for greater things, let us also remember to thank God always, as in 1 Thessalonians 5:18

Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Also in Philippians 4:6,

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

When upon life’s billows you are tempest-tossed,
When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost,
Count your many blessings, name them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done.
