‘What IF……?’

Nathan was just eight months old when I started my driving classes in Dubai. Someone had to look after him while I was away. My mother in law had to work hard on adjusting her shift timings according to my classes. After 2 months of struggle, I gave my first driving test and I failed it! It was quite disappointing! This meant there would be extra classes, more fees and more adjusting of schedules. I wished and prayed I would clear it the second test, but there was a sense of fear of failing inside me. What if I don’t do well this time? What if I make a mistake? What if….What if?? Ofcourse, I prayed about the test, but the doubt and fear kept haunting me. I finally got my results to know that I passed!

Time and again, we come across situations in our lives where this question ‘What if?’ keeps popping up in our minds. There would have been times where we had expected something positive but the result would have been the opposite , giving way for the birth of ‘fear of negative’ in our lives. For instance, a sister who had a miscarriage would live in fear of the same throughout her next pregnancy.

A divorcee would not want to remarry because of the fear of pain, hurt and disappointment. A person who has lost his/her job unexpectedly would live in the fear of losing it again. The good news is, you can overcome this fear through words of faith from the Word of God.

In Hebrews 4:12,

For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

John 1:1

“…….and the Word was God.”

When we speak the word of God over the situations in our lives, we invite God into our situations. Where there is the powerful presence of God, there is no room for fear to stay. When we confess the promises from the word of God, it strengthens our internal being and gives way to God working His way in our life. He will drive away all kinds of fear from our lives and the peace which is beyond all understanding will guard our hearts and minds.

Do not let fear overtake us, instead let us overcome the fear with the word of God.

Reading Portion: Psalm 23:1-6

The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need.
He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams.
He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name.
Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me.
You prepare a feast for me  in the presence of my enemies. You honor me by anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings.
Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life,
and I will live in the house of the Lord forever.
