Yeh dil maange more (This heart desires more)

Wilderness

Wow… It’s been some time since I lasted posted an article due to busy schedule. Many of you have enquired and encouraged us to keep writing. We are so thankful to you. May God bless each one of you. Please do keep this ministry in prayer.

Recently I came across a survival show on Discovery channel called ‘Alone in the wild’. It featured some celebrities who were left to survive in the wild for about 7 days with nothing but a knapsack of emergency equipment. Watching this got me thinking of the life of the Israelites in the wilderness. They were a huge multitude of people in the middle of nowhere, but they survived 40 years in the desert! They didn’t go through professional survival skills training or have any emergency equipment with them.

God sent Moses to liberate them from Egypt and slavery. He parted the Red Sea before their eyes, let them pass through it and destroyed their enemies. He made a pillar of cloud by day and pillar of fire by night, so they would have shade and light. God provided Manna (special kind of food) from heaven to eat and made fresh water to flow from a rock. Neither their dress nor sandals wore out. All this and more…. And yet, we read that they grumbled and murmured against God. They were never satisfied and kept asking for more or something different.

What an ungrateful bunch! After all this…. How could they?!

But then, comparing with most of our lives today, how different are we? We are blessed with the best food, clothing, good health, family and every other provision in our day today lives. For a while, we are thankful and joyful. Eventually with time, we start taking things for granted. Slowly boredom kicks in and then we start grumbling looking at others and what we don’t have. It’s funny how time has not changed human attitude and behavioral patterns. The ever famous Pepsi slogan “Yeh dil maange more” or “This heart desires more” is so true!

What is our attitude towards God’s providence in our lives? Do we acknowledge God’s presence in our lives and have a humbled understanding that we survive each day by His grace and not our efforts or abilities. Are we thankful to God for all He has done for us? Do we express contentment or are we always seeking for more?

Let us examine our lives and ask God to remove the stony heart in us. Let us know for sure that God knows what is best for us and he gives us only that. God knows our needs and desires and He will provide according to our needs and fulfill the good desires of our heart. Romans 8:28 says,

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

Let us put our faith in the word and trust Him completely for every need of our lives.
