Oh be careful little mouth what you speak!

New year wishes to all our readers and subscribers. We pray that God may honor you and raise you to new heights in every aspect of your life. Take this new year as an opportunity to know Christ better everyday and draw nearer to Him. We love and bless you all!

My in-laws were out-of-town for a while and I was put in-charge of taking care of our little garden. I was on my  daily routine of watering the plants when I noticed a young tomato plant withering. For some reason, I felt so concerned and disturbed. As I poured water for the plant,I said “Young one, you cannot fade away so easily. You are young and yet to bear lot of fruit. Cheer up!”. Of course nothing happened immediately, but over the days I saw life return to the plant. Although I’m not sure if it had something to do with my ‘pep talk’, but I learned a valuable spiritual lesson from this.

How often we come across people who are low and distressed, and live a ‘lifeless life’? What is our approach towards them? We often forget that our fellow brothers and sisters are equally weak as we are and it’s simply by the grace of God that we stand. When we see someone going through a tough phase in life, sadly, the most common way we react is to blame it on some sins they did and this is a punishment for it. Or if they had wronged us in the past, we tend to rejoice in their sorrow. I wonder if God took that approach with us every time we felt low, we may not even be alive today. He has a different approach of love. The Bible tells us hat we should encourage others and pray or them. We have to help them realize their worth in the eyes of the Creator to bear fruit for His glory. In such circumstances, we need to be careful of what we say.

We read in Ephesians 4:29,

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

Again in Colossians 3:14,
And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.

As we begin this new year, let us resolve to seek God and put on love. May our hearts be filled with love and mercy to those who are weak and low. May we encourage each other to bear good fruits for God’s glory!

Be fruitful, be kind, stay blessed!
