Encourage -It makes a difference!

A friend of mine was going through very rough patches in her life. She was heavily depressed and it seemed like no amount of words of encouragement from the word of God seemed to convince her otherwise. She was so desperate for a change, a breakthrough in her life.Frustration struck and I started to give up on her. Thoughts of defeat overwhelmed me and I decided that there was no point in trying to encourage her or to make her understand, but I was far from the TRUTH. I never gave a thought to what God’s plan could be or what my Jesus would do if He was in my place? Thank God we serve a faithful and merciful God! He had other lessons to teach me, and He disturbed my peace and led me to reflect on His word. The verse that the Holy Spirit led me to was Hebrews 3:13-

‘ But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.’ (NIV)

My eyes were filled with tears and I was convicted of how easily I gave up on my dear friend. Our God is a God of second chances, and He is so patient with us. Aren’t we called to be like Him? Aren’t we supposed to imitate His nature? Never give up … Encourage without ceasing! This is a command that we need to follow in our daily life. In 1 Thessalonians 5:11 , we read

“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up”

 In Hebrews 10:25,

“Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another–and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”

It is God’s desire that His children encourage and exhort one another so none of them would fall into temptation and drift away from Him. As long as the “today” of the call of grace should continue, we have to exhort one another, lest unbelief should glide into our hearts through the subtlety of sin. We need to help each other to be strong in our belief in Jesus Christ. Don’t think of yourself as an exception to this, as each of us could use that extra ounce of strength that comes through fellowship, prayers and sharing our lives with others who trust God.We should at all times encourage each other to be true to God. The world we live in is filled with lies and deceit and it becomes easy to melt and mold to its desires. We often tend to forget that we belong to God and lack the identity of a true child of God as per His standards.

Accountability and encouragement is the key!

May this blog encourage you to be an encourager. That’s the kind of person God wants us to be!
